CCCD has been assisting the Trail Blazers 4-H Club with the Living Snow Fence Project on Highway 59 north of Douglas for several years despite discouragement from drought, deer and antelope. On May 17, 2007, we supplied over 75 Rocky Mountain Juniper for replacement planting. These trees were some of the trees we had purchased from Niobrara County CD to help them have a feasible order from Bessey Nursery at Halsey NE. These were bare-root trees so we will be comparing survival rates with the potted trees from Colorado used in previous years. Karla Burton and Tim Schroeder assisted the 4-Her’s and leaders in replacement planting and care of the established trees. |
