Recycling The used motor oil must be free of antifreeze and water. Special arrangements need to be made for any amount over 10 gallons. Arrangements need to be made through City of Douglas Public Works, (307)358-9750 from 7am to 4pm. Smaller amounts of oil (5-10 gallons) may be dropped off at Public Works Shop, 420 West Grant Street, or at the City of Douglas Landfill at the end of Clough Street. Douglas has recycling trailers located in the Safeway parking lot and at Keith Rider Park. There are bins for magazines, newspaper, aluminum cans, telephone books (seasonal from April to May), glass (bottles, jars), computer and office mix (envelopes, etc.). Enough recyclable material is collected to ship approximately 20 tons ever 5 to 6 weeks. This helps to extend the life of the landfill and with environmental concerns. There is also a recycling trailer available at the Glenrock Landfill. This service is provided by the City of Douglas, Converse County Conservation District and is not self-supporting. Other local recycling facilities: OK Wrecking, This-n-That Store, Helping Hands Ministry, Douglas Sr. Citizens Something Special Shop, Ralph Olds Wrecking and Steel and the City of Douglas.
